Commemorating the National Waste Awareness Day, City of Tegal Inaugurated the Waste Recycling Center in Mintaragen Village with the Yok Yok Ayok Daur Ulang! Program

Tegal, Indonesia – February 24, 2021 – Today the City Government of Tegal inaugurated a waste management center located in Mintaragen Village after officially joining as the organizer of the "Yok Yok Ayok Daur Ulang!" together with Trinseo (NYSE: TSE), Kemasan Group, and other supporting organizations, such as Asosiasi Industri Olefin, Aromatik & Plastik Indonesia (INAPLAS); Asosiasi Daur Ulang Plastik Indonesia (ADUPI); Ikatan Pemulung Indonesia (IPI); and Responsible Care® Indonesia.

Coinciding with the National Waste Care Day (HPSN), the City of Tegal again expressed its efforts in overcoming the waste problem, where the end-to-end pilot waste management program was started. This waste management center in Mintaragen Village is also the first Municipal Waste Management Center in Indonesia after the installation of a polystyrene foam compactor in March 2020, which was followed by the presence of the Mesin Predator Sampah.

"We are committed to manage waste through synergy with related stakeholders through this waste recycling program to achieve and drive a circular economy," said the Mayor of Tegal, H. Dedy Yon Supriyono, S.E., M.M. at the inauguration ceremony[CR(1] .

The Mayor of Tegal H. Dedy Yon Supriyono stated that the commitment of the Tegal City Government to waste management and the environment, which is a complex problem for almost all regions, was realized by the City of Tegal by implementing Article 12 of Law No. 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management. Starting from waste management at 21 TPS with the 3R principle (reduce, reuse, recycle), the use of plastic trash bags for raw materials for shoes and other crafts. In fact, the roads in the Tegal City Hall Complex are made of asphalt mixed with plastic waste.

President Director of PT. Trinseo Materials Indonesia and Director of Sustainability Responsible Care® Indonesia, Hanggara Sukandar, acts as Consulting Director of Sustainability for the Tegal City Waste Management Center also said that the collaboration of this recycling program has the ultimate goal of achieving a circular economy.

"I also feel very grateful to be the Consulting Director of Sustainability for the Tegal City Waste Management Center. This collaboration is a perfect example that illustrates that with a joint effort like this, we are helping to close the loop for a circular economy in Indonesia and its surroundings," said Hanggara Sukandar at the inauguration ceremony in Tegal.

Wahyudi Sulistya, Director of Kemasan Group who was also present at the inauguration event emphasized the importance of recycling plastic waste because it has a high economic value. "Kemasan Group has donated to the Tegal City waste management center one unit of PS compactor and one unit of Mesin Predator Sampah, which is a waste predator machine capable of processing 20 tons of wet waste every day. I hope that this can help in achieving a circular economy," Wahyudi Sulistya explained

"We congratulate the City of Tegal on the inauguration of the waste recycling center located in Mintaragen Village. Hopefully this pilot program can continue and can be an example for other cities in Indonesia," concluded Hanggara Sukandar.

This event was also supported and attended by Prispolly Lengkong, Chairman of the National Association of Indonesian Scavengers. Prispolly said, "I congratulate the City of Tegal, Kemasan Group, and PT Trinseo Materials Indonesia for the launch of this waste management program. Hopefully in the future more cities will follow this step".

This program will process around 260 tons of waste per month, or 10 tons per day at TPS Mintaragen. Waste that can be processed is all types of waste other than iron and glass. The waste management program is also supported by several organizations, such as Responsible Care® Indonesia (RCI), Asosiasi Daur Ulang Plastik Indonesia (ADUPI), Ikatan Pemulung Indonesia (IPI), and Asosiasi Industri Olefin, Aromatik & Plastik Indonesia (INAPLAS).
